New Site Design

I got bored of my sites design so I finally decided to change it. The original theme is call OneRoom and it was created by Jeremie Tisseau. I liked the graphics and the overall design. I had to change the menu system. Jeremie’s original theme didn’t handle subpages the way I needed. After a few CSS tweaking my theme now has dynamic dropdown menus for all subpages. I made a few other changes but the menu was the most noticeable change. Now I need to make time and design a better logo along with some speed optimizations for the site.

Let me know what you think of the new design! I’m always looking for feedback on ways to improve things.

I finished the lastest WordPress upgrade. It was a bit of a pain because I had to update MySQL before I could upgrade WordPress. But, now everything is up to date.

Added Mobile Device Compatibility

I just enabled WPTouch on PatrickTalmadge.com. WPTouch provides optimized formatting for the iPhone and other mobile devices. I figured now that nearly everyone I know has a smartphone my site should be optimized for mobile phones.

WPTouch is extremely easy to use and has tons of customization. I see no reason that I will remove WPTouch. If you are a WordPress user I highly recommend WPTouch as a quick way to optimize for mobile devices.

Word Press Updates

In the past I’ve tried WordPress’s automatic update and was never able to get it to work. But the last two WordPress updates have gone flawlessly using the automatic update. You can’t beat WordPress’s features and functionality for the low low price of free. Hopefully automatic update will continue to work and simplify my update process.

Added Facebook Connect

I added a plug-in to my blog to allow Facebook Connect to work. With a Facebook account you can now log on to my blog with your Facebook account. The plug-in will automatically setup your account using your Facebook information.

I Finished It!

I did it and it took less than 6 hours. I tend to use the same design style because that is what I like. www.smartmovingllc.com is alot like www.patrickandsalli.com. I used a lot of the style sheet and the layout is nearly the same.

I did make the graphics from scrach on www.smartmovingllc.com but the main layout is the same as www.patrickandsalli.com. I really like the design the layout is simple and it is database driven. So I can add search functionality quickly if needed. The only thing I would change is add some images to the pages to brighten things up.

Well now I can focus back on www.phpwebtorial.com.

My Dad sent me the text for his site. So tomorrow I am going to work on getting his site up and running. Not sure if I will get it finished but I will try. I started www.SmartMovingLLC.com months ago. Now looking back at the design I am not happy with it. I think I am going to redesign the site to make it look cooler. It should go quickly because he gave me all the text.

We will see what I come up with for a design. It will be a fun project tomorrow I am going try and finish it in one day. I have never done a full site design and layout in one day. Wish me luck. I am hoping my Dad will give me some money for this. I really want to get a new monitor or two for my computer. I am thinking about either getting two Dell UltraSharp 1907FP 19″ Monitors or one Dell UltraSharp 2407WFP 24″ Monitor. I think I am leaning toward the 24″.

I will let you know tomorrow if I got the site finished.

I finished my redesign of www.patrickandsalli.com. It is a great looking site that has a lot of cool features. I am very happy with it. I do need to finish some of the large image viewer code. The best part is the backend code I wrote years ago, code that manages the pictures and the photo albums I was able to keep it and just tweak it.

It is a good feeling when you can re-use code that your wrote 2 or 3 years ago. My next project is to finish creating www.phpwebtorial.com. I started working on the site and got side tracked by the redesign of www.patrickandsalli.com. I am trying to use the wordpress code base on www.phpwebtorial.com and make it work as a php tutorial website.
