Finished reading The Turning (Blood Ties, Book 1) by Jennifer Armintrout. ER resident Carrie Ames tells the tale of how, after being attacked and left for dead, she eventually realizes she’s been turned. Fellow vampire Nathan Grant saves Carrie from her creator’s jealous partner, only to give Carrie an ultimatum. Either pledge allegiance to the movement, a group of vampires dedicated to the eradication of their own race, or perish for their cause. Carrie would like to make up her own mind, but an invisible “blood tie” to Cyrus Kerrick, her creator, leaves her in his power.

The Turning is a well written entertaining book. Maybe I have read too many vampire books lately, but this book doesn’t contain anything that new or interesting. Overall it is a good book. Before I can really make a judgment on the series I will need to read the next book.
